LAFD hosts annual Girls Camp to introduce fire careers to girls.

Kindling a Passion

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the LAFD resumed its annual Girls Camp to introduce fire skills to high-school-aged young women and encourage their interest in becoming Firefighters. It was the department’s ninth Girls Camp.

The camp was held Oct. 1 – 2 at Drill Tower 81 in Panorama City. Fifty-one young women ages 14-18 participated. Staff from five other fire agencies assisted.

The goal of the camp is to instill confidence, leadership and courage in young women while providing awareness of a potential career in the fire service. The curriculum includes interactive training exercises with power tools, ladders, hose lines and extinguishers; basic training in first-aid and CPR; and physical fitness, leadership and team building events.

Well done, LAFD!
