Theme: The Bounty of the Earth

“Thanksgiving turkey!”

Dennis Eigel, Retired, Public Works/Sanitation

Noelle’s comment: Ah, this is what it’s all about, Dennis, isn’t it? A Thanksgiving bounty! You’ve put me in a good festive mood with this photo and the official colors of fall – brown, tan, and so forth. The earth provides for us, and we’re grateful. Happy Thanksgiving!

“Our recent trip this past summer to Alberta, Canada (Banff area) was just a wonder to behold and made me think about the theme of the bounty of the earth. Hope you enjoy them. The turquoise waters are really that color – no photo enhancing done!”

John Otoshi, Retired, LADWP

Noelle’s comment: You’ve captured the immense beauty of Banff and the Canadian Rockies incredibly well, John. Even at high altitudes, the earth still reminds us that it can provide and nurture abundant life. Thanks!

“Yosemite National Park, Sept. 24, 2024. After a long and winding drive, we got our reward … a spectacular view of the park. This one was taken at the Valley.”

Leonides Samaniego, Retired, LAPD

Noelle’s comment: Sometimes the best way to highlight a feature is by setting it against something else. Here, the bounty of vegetation at the bottom is made all the more lush by the craggy rocks and deep-blue sky. Beautifully composed, Leonides, with a stunning deep focus.

“Joshua Tree Park, California. Taken Sept. 3. Milky Way Night is a bounty for your eyes and spirit.”

Alex Andrews, Building and Safety

Noelle’s comment: A visual bounty indeed, Alex, with an incredible (slow?) exposure. The earth can give us much, if we only slow down and look. Thanks for submitting!

“The bounty of the earth may mean different things to different people. In Greece, where this photo was taken, it is closely associated with a good olive harvest in groves that stun with their natural, albeit sometimes symmetrical beauty.”

Officer Yves Didier, Airport Police

Noelle’s comment: I doubt I would have noticed the symmetry, Yves, if you hadn’t raised the camera angle. Was this shot with a drone? In any event, the lines of symmetry were the first things I noticed. But the more I gazed, the more I could see subtle variations in the colors of the olive trees. Gorgeous, calming and rich. Thanks!
