Hi readers,

We received a ton of awesome photos this month and a few from previous month. Incredible! If you didn’t win this month, check back again next month. Stay tuned!

WINNERS ON THE THEME Work Gear:

“While there is some LA City work gear in this picture (metal barriers do count, right?), the real star of this image clearly is that guy from DC’s work equipment, called Air Force One. Observed at LAX during one of former President Obama’s visits to the City of Angels.”

– Yves Didier, Airport Police

John’s comment: That’s some gear, Yves! I like the angle and the moment – when the President is just emerging from the symbol of power. Nice!

“Harbor Generating Station: The overhead, horizontal, remote-controlled, heavy-duty crane for removing and replacing parts for a steam generator. Also, exhaust fans on the wall.”

– John Nance, Retired, LADWP

John’s comment: The light streaming in from the ventilation windows is awesome, John. It reminds me of the dozens of times, maybe more, of meeting City employees in their places of work. Thanks for submitting!

OPEN-THEME WINNERS FROM PREVIOUS MONTHS:

“Since telecommuting, I enjoy my new hobby, gardening. Occasionally, beautiful butterflies stop by, visiting my little garden!”

– Constance Chang, Public Works/Sanitation and Environment

John’s comment: We’ve had many submissions using microphotography of butterflies and flowers, Constance, but this might be the best of all. Beautiful indeed!

“I came across this photo I took in Winchester Cathedral, England.”

– Capt. Michael Barnes, Retired, Harbor

John’s comment: The lighting is perfect … and the detail of the stonework just pops out! I waited to use this in April, the month of Easter. The stonework of similar hues really shows off the patterns and angles, leading my eye right to the (slightly illuminated) crucifixion. It’s simple and breathtaking.

“I send you this soothing photo.”

– Martha Grabe, LAPD

John’s comment: You are right, Martha … soothing! The blues, whites and ripples lead my eye all the way to Coronado (I presume). Thanks for sending!

“This is my favorite picture … all you see is Dodger Blue!”

– Renee Ramirez, LAFD

John’s comment: Awesome, Renee! And just in time for the season to start. Maybe this photo had something to do with the end of the lockout, who knows! (Anyway, don’t miss the Dodgers ticket deals through the Club, too.) Thanks for getting me excited for the season to come. Go Dodgers
