On Aug. 29, Fire Chief Kristin Crowley and senior staff honored the incredible freelance and department photographers, who help tell the department’s story of heroism and the realities of firefighting to the general public.

As part of that ceremony, the department honored Juan and Veronica Guerra, photographers who have contributed much to Alive!’s coverage of the LAFD and the City.

Juan and Veronica were courageous, talented and critical to several stories in Alive!, especially during the pandemic when access to outside activities was severely curtailed. In those early days of the pandemic, especially, they kept us going and in the middle of it all.

Deepest congratulations, Juan and Veronica, for this much-deserved honor, and well done to all LAFD photographers for your important service and dedication.

The United Firefighters of LA – UFLAC – co-hosted the event.

Below are some of the photographs taken by Juan and Veronica Guerra that graced past covers of Alive!
