New Marshal in Town

With his promotion reported in last month’s Alive!, Deputy Chief Orin Saunders is LA’s new Fire Marshal.
Deputy Chief Saunders is a 21-year veteran of the LAFD. Before his selection as the Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal of the Fire Prevention and Public Safety Bureau (FPB), Chief Saunders executed day-to-day operations of the Industrial, Commercial, Public Safety, Legal, and Fire Development Services section by providing safety and accountability through effective leadership.
Before his assignment, Chief Saunders was responsible for training, emergency operations, community relations, and the administrative operations of Operations West Bureau as the Assistant Bureau Commander. His initial assignment as a Chief Officer included Battalions 17 and 18 and special duty as the Employee Relations Officer. Chief Saunders has held the ranks of Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Inspector I, Captain I, Captain II, Battalion Chief, and Assistant Chief.
Chief Saunders obtained a Master’s degree in leadership and management from the University of La Verne; and a Bachelor’s degree from USC. Chief Saunders is a current and past participant in the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
