Cabrillo Marine Aquarium invites the public to participate in its Take Action Day! from 9 a.m. to noon Sat., April 20.

Guests are invited to take action to help the local environment on Earth Day where they can learn about the impact of microplastics and help clean the community’s beautiful Cabrillo Beach.

Local volunteers will spend the morning cleaning marine debris off the beach for the benefit of both animals and people. Volunteers can take part in contests to help remove the smallest (and most dangerous!) pollution from the sand, including Styrofoam, nurdles (small pellets of plastic), bottle caps and more. Cleanup challenges are promised.

Those with kayaks are invited to the “kayak cleanup” – bring your own boat and life vest to help clean the bay.

Volunteers are asked to help make this a “zero waste” event by bringing their own reusable gloves and buckets for trash pickup and refillable water bottles. For those who can’t, the Aquarium will have supplies, and light refreshments for all. Groups are requested to call ahead.

The event is free and open to the public.

The aquarium is at 3720 Stephen M. White Dr. in San Pedro and is a Rec and Parks facility with support from Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. There will be free parking for four hours on the museum lot.
