Airport and Port Police welcome new public safety Officers.

Welcome New Officers!

As part of the recent LA Police Academy graduation Class 3-24, Airports and Harbor welcomed new Officers.

The Airport Police Division proudly welcomed Officers Yosmar Vela and Officer Shawn Sokolsky during a swearing-in ceremony at the LAPD Academy in Elysian Park. These new Officers will embark on a comprehensive six-month Field Training Officer (FTO) program, where they will be paired with experienced mentors. Throughout this period, they will gain in-depth knowledge of policies and procedures, and develop the skills necessary to effectively handle calls and assist citizens. This rigorous training ensures they are well-prepared to serve and protect the community with professionalism and dedication.

Prior to joining the Port Police, Officer Gurule was a collegiate wrestler at Menlo College, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in business management. He was also a wrestling coach for Los Alamitos High School. Congratulations on your graduation and welcome aboard, Officer Gurule!
