A retirement reception was held Aug. 27 for Lt. Kenneth Hawkes, who retired from the Port Police after 33 years of service.
The event was held at the USS Iowa Fantail. Many family members, friends and co-workers attended. Even his babysitter attended!
A City Council resolution, produced by area Councilman Joe Buscaino and signed by all Councilmembers, read:
“Whereas, Lt. Kenneth Hawkes became a Police Officer with the Los Angeles Airport Police Dept.; transferred to work with the Los Angeles Port Police; was promoted to Field Training Officer (FTO), also known as Sr. Lead Officer on May 7, 2000. In March 2003, he was promoted to Sergeant and in May 2009, he was promoted to Lieutenant; and
“Whereas, Lt. Hawkes’ many years of service, the City and the Port of Los Angeles have experienced unparalleled growth, including the Pier 400 Project and Ports O’Call, and the development of the Port Police Hazardous Materials and K-9 Units; and
“Whereas, Lt. Hawkes served 33 years with confidence and dedication from July 18, 1989, to Aug. 27, 202; and
“Whereas, Lt. Hawkes’ courteous demeanor, professionalism and his ability to take charge and lead by example, were an asset to the Los Angeles Port Police and earned a high degree of respectability among his peers;
“Now, therefore be it resolved, that by the adoption of this resolution, the Los Angeles City Council extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Lt. Kenneth Hawkes for his 33 years of service to the City of Los Angeles, and extends to him and his family best wishes for health and happiness in the years to come.”
