Kudos to Pet
On Sept. 9, a reception was held for Capt. II Pete Casey, Training Division, who retired after 33 years of City service.
“Saying goodbye is never easy,” he wrote. “Sept. 9 marks the end of 33 years serving the City of Angels. A boy from Delaware, growing up on Adam-12, dreamed to become an LAPD Officer. I have lived my dreams beyond my own imaginations and expectations. Honored to have served the residents of LA.”
In 1989 Pete joined the LAPD as a Line Reserve Officer at Rampart Division while still working for retailer Target. In 1991, Pete lateraled onto the Department and was assigned to Newton Division. While working Newton Division, he received numerous awards and commendations, including the Department’s highest honor, the “Medal of Valor.” One of Pete’s proudest moments was when he performed CPR to a lifeless child who was not breathing and as a result saved her life.
In 1993, Pete was assigned to Pacific Division. During his assignment, Pete was featured on the Discovery Channel’s Inside the Real LAPD. While at Pacific Division Pete established a strong neighborhood and business advisory council, implemented Mode Neighborhood program sponsored by the City Attorney’s Office, and obtained a gang injunction on the Culver City Boys gang. In 1999, Pete was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Southwest Division as a Field Supervisor. In 2000, Pete was promoted to Sergeant II and assigned to Internal Affairs South Section.
In 2001 Pete transferred to 77th Division as an Assistant Watch Commander. In 2006 Pete was asked by the then Deputy Chief Charlie Beck to establish Operations South Bureau’s Criminal Gang Homicide Group as then Commander Pat Gannon’s aide. In 2007 Pete completed his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and was promoted to Lieutenant.
From 2007 to 2012, Pete continued his career as Watch Commander in 77th Division, Olympic Division and Central Division. In 2013, Pete was selected by the Director of Office of Operations to be the Officer in Charge of Central Area’s Safer Cities. In 2014, Pete was promoted to Lieutenant II and assigned to Communications Division. In 2015, Pete was selected to the position of Assistant Commanding Officer, Communications Division. Pete has been credited for his interpersonal and management abilities in improving the morale and atmosphere of the largest command within the City. Pete was promoted to Captain in January 2016. Prior to joining Mission’s leadership team, Pete was the Van Nuys Patrol Commanding Officer.
