Theme: VACATION
“These photos don’t do the beauty of these fields justice. It’s breathtaking.”
– Jill Weiszmann, Retired, Club Member
John’s comment: That color is amazing! Your photos always remind me why I love the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for submitting!
“This too is part of the vacation: After all, those umbrellas have to be kept ready for the many beach-goers who are coming back on the following morning. Seen and captured on Skopelos Island, Greece.”
– Yves Didier, Airport Police
John’s comment: These umbrellas – their placement, color and status – creates a gentle and interesting tension, Yves. I’m relaxed, but a little tense that the crowd is coming. It’s a hurry up and relax kind of thing! It shows a good eye and an interesting angle. Well done!
“The picture was taken at Huntington Beach. As the sun was starting to set, I saw that there were little sandpipers running along the shore.”
– Officer Richard Andrade, Airport Police
John’s comment: Wow, Officer, what a gorgeous photo! You think that one color – bronze, in this case – might be too boring. But this shows you can do a lot with that one color. The bird’s placement is perfect to show the depth and dimension. Thanks for submitting!
“Vacation in Wisconsin. A group of happy Retirees were in front of Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers.”
– Virginia Wai Ching Lit, Retired, Public Works/Engineering
John’s comment: Your photo makes me laugh, Virginia, and that should be a big part of any vacation. Lambeau Field behind your group is an important backdrop – it sets the scene (where are these people going?) and frames the group, which could be a little messy without it. But with it, it works. Thanks!
“Flying high in the sky, on my way to Spokane, Wash.”
– Renee Ramirez, LAFD
John’s comment: Wanna get away, indeed! This is a classic view that every window-seat flyer experience, Renee, and you have captured it well. The serenity and calm of flying comes through. It can say nothing other than travel. Well done!
“I vacationed in Glacier National Park last month and rode my bike along the Going-to-the-Sun Road. This picture was taken on that road along Saint Mary Lake. ‘It looks like there were two skies, one on top of the other.’ – Forrest Gump”
– Carlos Aranda, LADWP
John’s comment: A stunning landscape, Carlos! The colors and framing are incredible. I want to vacation there. Awesome!
“The coconut photo was taken on Coron Island in the Philippines. Divers come here from around the world to enjoy the beautiful reefs and their inhabitants. You should try it you won’t regret it.”
– Mike Aubin, LADWP
John’s comment: Mike, you are a brave man for sharing this photo with Alive! readers. Then again, it is Gauguin-like in his French Polynesian phase. I hear some laughter at my comparison, but I’m sticking with it. (And it looks like you had a great vacation.) Thanks for sharing!
