Port Police Chief Tom Gazsi, joined by Port Executive Director Eugene Seroka and Port Police Deputy Chief Randall Allen, swore in newly promoted Capt. Kevin McCloskey and Sgt. Jose Magaña Feb. 12 accompanied by their families, friends and colleagues.

Capt. McCloskey and Sgt. Magaña are career Port Police legacy members of the organization.

Capt. Kevin J. McCloskey has been a Port Police officer since 2001 and has worked a variety of assignments, including Patrol Officer, Boating Officer, Police Diver, Marine Unit Sergeant, Policy and Administration, and Legal Liaison. He serves as the Port Police Commanding Officer of Maritime Operations. In this position, Capt. McCloskey is responsible for the Port Police Dive Team and Surface Patrol boats. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a juris doctor (law) degree.

Sgt. Jose Magaña began his law enforcement career at the Port Police as a Police Officer in 2007. He had previously been a Police Cadet and Dispatcher at the Huntington Park Police Dept. As a Port Police Officer, he served in various assignments, including Sr. Lead Officer, Bicycle Unit, and Field Training Officer. He has also been instrumental in the Professional Development and Training/Recruitment Unit. He is assigned to Patrol Operations. He has a Bachelor of arts degree from Cal State Long Beach.
