Valerie Lockhart retired from the LAPD as a Management Analyst after 26 years of City service that also included time at the DWP.
A reception was held in her honor Jan. 17 in the Tom Bradley Room high atop City Hall. At the event, special recognition was given to Valerie’s family members, who were present: husband, Patrick Lockhart; daughter, Janell Smith; son, Turon Jackson; son-in-law, Adonus Gillett; sister, Debera Hall; and best friend, Pamela Hamilton.
Valerie began her career with the DWP Nov. 3, 1992, as a Clerk Typist. After two years as clerical help for the water side of the DWP, she was promoted to Sr. Clerk Typist in the LAPD’s Records and Identification section in October 1994. She transferred to LAPD civilian employment in December 1995, where she recreated the civilian application so that it was up to date and easier to read.
Valerie went on to work in Systems Development Task Force (SDTF) in May 1998 and was promoted to Management Aide in Employee Operations and Development Division (EODD) in October 1998.
She transferred to the Personnel Group in June 1999 as the Work Permit Coordinator for the entire department and was promoted to Management Analyst I in October 2000.
In December 2000, she upgraded to Management Analyst II in Employee Selection Section (ESS). In May 2003, she transferred to the Planning and Research Division, Forms Unit, where she was responsible for creating and updating the Department’s more than 1,000 forms, including ticket books for Patrol Officers.
Valerie transferred to the LAPD Budget Division in June 2006. She completed the last 10 years of employment in the Force Investigation Division as the Training Coordinator, then the civilian oversight for officer involved shooting investigations.
During her time in the LAPD, Valerie received more than 20 commendations for dedication to duty and professionalism.
Married for more than 24 years to Patrick Lockhart Sr., she has two biological children, Turon and Janell; four children by marriage, Lawrence, Patrick Jr., Sterling and Jonathon; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
