Police, Fire volunteers hold 16th local St. Baldrick’s fundraiser to fight childhood cancers.
Story and photos by Arlene Herrero, Club Director of Product Development
Volunteers from the LAPD, LAFD, other City departments and the community came together to get their heads shaved as part of the annual St. Baldrick’s event and raise funds to fight childhood cancers.
The event was held once again at LAFD Station 89 in North Hollywood. Organizing the day were LAFD Capt. Danny Wu, Club Board Member, and LAPD Lt. Greg Doyle, Club Member.
More than $60,000 was raised at this year’s St. Baldrick’s event. The Club was one of the vendors and also donated prizes for the silent auction. There was also a blood drive and a bone marrow registration along with fire and police apparatus, magicians and face painters.
Best of all, everyone enjoyed a delicious free pancake and sausage breakfast from Pancake Factory North Hollywood and coffee from the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Proceeds from this year’s event bring the aggregate total raised through 16 years to more than $1.1 million! Hope to see everyone again next year.
The event was part of the nationwide St. Baldrick’s association, which raises money to fight childhood cancers.
Special thanks go to Lt. Doyle and Capt. Wu for their assistance.
