A Moving Event

It was great to see County Supervisor and Club Member Janice Hahn at the recent momentous event March 14 on a parking lot near LAX to break ground on the awesome new automated people mover that will transform how you and I get to LAX.

She was there with Mayor Eric Garcetti, LA Councilman Mike Bonin, County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Airports General Manager Deborah Flint – and Alive! (of course) – to start the most expensive project in the City’s history.

Janice had the line of the day when she said something like: “In LA the nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘Hey, can you give me a ride to LAX?” The crowd, already giddy, burst into laughter and applause. Her candor is one of the reasons we loved Janice when she was a City Councilwoman, and why we’re proud she’s a Club Member.

The automated people mover will ferry passengers to and from the LAX terminals and connect travelers to the County’s Metro light rail system, dump them into a giant new rental car facility, and deliver them to buses, Ubers, bikes and pretty much anything else with wheels. It’s been a long time coming, and construction will render LAX hard to navigate for a while, but in the end, we’ll be getting the LAX we need and deserve. Godspeed to you, LAX, between now and then!
