Goodbye, Sgt. Deng

Sgt. Shiou Deng, Club Member, falls in the line of duty while attending to a traffic incident.

On June 23, Sgt. Shiou Deng was killed while attending to a traffic incident on the 405 Freeway while on duty. He was 53.

According to a statement by LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, Sgt. Deng served the City of Los Angeles with honor, courage and compassion for more than 26 years. He was a deeply respected leader within the department and a trusted protector of the communities. “His loss is immeasurable, and the grief we feel is shared not only by the men and women of the LAPD, but by the entire law enforcement family and the residents he served so faithfully.”

Sgt. Deng had been a Club Member for many years. The Club sends its condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

“As we mourn, we also honor Sgt. Deng’s extraordinary legacy—a legacy defined by integrity, bravery and an unwavering commitment to public service,” Chief McDonnell wrote. “His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him, served with him, and were protected by him.”

A funeral ceremony was held July 24 in Covina
