Summer Picnic Fun!

RLACEI by Beverly J. Clark, Publicity Director

Retirees Association hosts annual summer picnic.

More than 168 Retirees attended the annual RLACEI summer picnic, held Sept. 14 at the Friendship Auditorium. It was a beautiful day to come out, enjoy the weather and mingle with friends.

How exciting to see the number of attendees increase each year! It means Retirees are enjoying the gatherings, and of course, board members love to see everyone having a good time. It is important for Retirees to have opportunities to socialize and stay active, and the RLACEI picnic was a great way to do that. What a pleasure to have our Retirees coming together, having fun, and staying connected.

RLACEI’s goal is to have fun, win some prizes, reminisce and get the latest updates from LACERS, the Employees Club and the Los Angeles Federal City Credit Union, as well as learn what the board is doing to maintain and improve retirement benefits.

As this event also serves as the general election meeting for the RLACEI Board, the meeting was called to order by President Ruth Perry, who welcomed attendees and opened the floor for nominations. Nominations Chair Beverly Anderson introduced board members and called to approve the 2024 Board of Directors slate. All ten board members were re-elected by the members present.

In attendance representing the Employees Club of California were CEO Robert Larios, Director of Sales Noelle Kauffman and Alive! editor John Burnes; LACERS Commissioners Michael Wilkinson and Elizabeth Lee; LACERS Executive Officer Todd Bouey; and Los Angeles Federal Credit Union Sr. Business Development/Social Media Coordinator Robert Aguirre. American Sign Language interpreter Natalie Westfall was present for those Retirees in need of sign language assistance.

Robert Larios updated Retirees on the Club’s activities and its commitment to partner with RLACEI. Mike Wilkinson and Todd Bouey provided LACERS updates. Robert Aguirre provided credit union updates.

Each member in attendance received a RLACEI 50th anniversary commemorative glass. Raffle gifts and prizes were provided by RLACEI, the Employees Club and the Los Angeles Federal Credit Union.

Those in attendance enjoyed the food, the company, and the raffles. The sack lunch, catered by Mr. Ardi’s Catering, included a cheeseburger, fruit, potato salad, a cookie, sodas, and water. RLACEI provided coffee and cookies.

Members enjoyed themselves and were happy to socialize and reunite with co-workers whom they had not seen in a while.

Special thanks to those members who pitched in to help with the distribution of meals: Joe and Bonnie Zamora, Fern Johnson, and Sherrilyn Floyd-Henry. And a big “thanks” to volunteers Anna Smith and Jennifer Artinian-Marshall for their assistance in registration and setting up for the event.

A wonderful time was had by all!
