Cliff Cannon
RLACEI Board Member
Submitted by Beverly J. Clark,
Publicity Director
Cliff Cannon has been a member of RLACEI since January 2012. His vision involves making our organization truly interactive with our members. Currently we have three major annual events: a golf tournament, a picnic, and a holiday party. He would like to expand this through input from our general membership. He feels this can be accomplished by member participation in surveys and/or focus groups.
Cliff retired from the City after 32 years. The first 12 years was with the then Data Service Bureau as a Sr. DP Analyst. The last 12 years was in the Controller’s Office as a Fiscal Systems Specialist II, responsible for managing the citywide payroll system.
Cliff is a four-year Air Force veteran with special assignments to NATO. He is a native of New Orleans and has been married for 53 years with two children, three grandchildren, and one daughter-in-law.
He feels his retirement has been very fulfilling and active.
Cliff is also a founding member of the Los Angeles Association of Black Personnel (LAABP), the first ethnic organization recognized by the City under then Mayor Tom Bradley.
For the past 30 years Cliff has served on the Board of the Los Angeles Federal Credit Union, serving in all executive positions, including Board Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary.
From July 2009 to June 2018, Cliff served on the City’s Board of Deferred Compensation Administration. The Deferred Comp Board was unique because all the City’s departments are represented (e.g. City, Fire, Police, and Water and Power).
As a nine-year member of the Board of Directors of Cal State University Dominguez Hills Foundation, he chaired the Finance Committee, and in September 2015, Cliff was made Director Emeritus by the Foundation.
In Carson, Cliff had the longest tenure (20 years) on the City’s Planning Commission. Additionally, the Carson City Council awarded Cliff with the key to the city.
Cliff is also a Founding Board Member of the Holman United Methodist Church Permanent Endowment Committee. Holman is one of the largest United Methodist churches in Los Angeles.
Cliff’s relaxation and entertainment activities include attending concerts, plays and sporting activities, and traveling. He enjoys season tickets to the Hollywood Bowl and the Pasadena Playhouse. Cliff, along with other City employees who are now retired, formed a Fantasy Football league 38 years ago. It’s one of the oldest leagues in the country.
He has enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe and Africa. When asked which locale he enjoyed most, he quickly responded Africa, from Cape Town to up the coast to Victoria Falls.
